In this picture we train protection work with a police K-9 trainer.

The police K-9 trainer was mighty impressed. And no, the police K-9 trainers softstick is not in the dogs mouth. It's just the camera angel. And no, trained K-9 are not dangerous dogs. You don't train protection work before the dog has 100% obidience. In the real life, if I would have worked as a law enforcement officer,

I would have protected my K-9 with a nightstick in the same way as my dog protects me as my shield. Note the paws. They are angled down. Another detail in perfection. The aim is that a criminal will not be able to hit the paws.

This dog I built up in protection work for a long time. When he was finished, he was like a robot and switched between agression, struggle, defence etc. with pure perfection. This dog was built up with modern methods. Of cource you can make an average protection dog, with old methods, in say 14 days or a month, but that dog will not last in every situation. In crowd control you will propably have a dog that bites you insted of thoughs or takes to escape.

If you built up "right" dog step by step, with modern methods, you'll have the perfect tool for your K-9 work.

In the larger picture above, we practise K-9 protection work with a K-9 trainer in the Security Industry.

I and my dog are surprised by a "though" when we are out "patrolling". In critical situations the dog react directly, otherwise the dog must wait on the command to "turf". You don't want that your K-9 bites children etc that can run towards you in the real life. In this case the "though" resist and I give the command to "turf". The trainer receives the dog low to ease the bite and to avoid that the dog bites in the crotch. You see, the K-9 dogs are not gourmets. Modern K-9 dogs bites where they can access. Before K-9 was trained to bite in an arm or in the chest or in the back. But in nowadays criminals are on drugs and use bulletproof wests. We have had incidents in Nordic countries where police dogs have been shoot by criminals on drugs after the police dog have bite the though in the arm. A though on drugs don't neccessary feel any pain, so in these incidents the though have just pic up the police dog hanging in his arm and shoot it. The same goes for example criminals that use bulletproof wests. If you do as the police does for example in Sweden and send your police dog in the back or chest on a criminal with a bulletproof west the though don't feel any pain. If you are lucky the though will fall from the hit, but you will risk the life of your dog and yourself. If you instead send your dog in the crotch, even a though on drugs will respond instinctively. Therefore you should learn a modern K-9 dogs to bite for example in the crotch. If you work in a country like Sweden, which do not have modern legislation when it comes to active use of K-9, you can for example use a thin plastic muzzle. With a thin plastic muzzle you will get the effect, you will minimize the harm and as officer you don't end up in prison.

The dog in the picture are biting hard and with full mouth. Which is unusual for boxers.

Note the dogs high tail.

In the smaller picture on right we practise biting. Therefore I hold the dog back, so if the dog is not biting hard, with full mouth, the dog will not get the reward, which in this case is the sleeve. We use soft sleeve, so called "Swedish sleeve". You use the "swedish sleeve" in the end, when you have built up your dog in protection work. After that you can start to use hidden bite sleeves and bite suits.

In the picture above, I practise obedience. As you see, I want the dog goes straight ahead and look up at me at on the command "heel". You see that dog looks a little obliquely.

The dog must be able to work in real life.

In real life the dog can't go and look at the handler without observing what happens around. The secret to get the dog go straight and look up is to teach the dog to follow your shoulders and head, like a pyramid. You learn this to the dog already when the dog is a puppy. When you then start training obedience, you will achieve perfection. When the operation is finished, the dog will follow you as if the dog would be glued to your leg - straight forward, backward and sideways.

I used to show this operation to my puppy buyers, with my dog "Grimmy", who were impressed.

In the picture above to right, you see that the dog goes in front. The dog should go in loose leash on command "forward" and enter on the command "heel" and then again go out on the command "forward" and so on.

This operation is used in confined spaces, such as basements aisles. Notice the dog's eyes and ears. The dog is vigilant, but is still wary that the leash is slack and waiting for the next order. Perfection.

In the picture above you can se that the puppy's ears are taped, so that the ears will lay down at the head. After 14 days, the ears are laying down at the head. You tape the ears of all boxer puppies. The tape is nothing that hurts or harms the dog. You use regular skin-friendly surgical tape.

In the picture above you also see the first step in protection work.

This playful step also create good contact between the dog and the handler.

In the pictures on left you see the first and the last step.

In "heal".

The first step are taken when the dog is a puppy.

Clicker and targeting practise in progress. In my hand I hold a targetstick with a clicker. In my other hand I hold a reward (a smal piece of a meatball).

The goal is to get perfection.

Retrieve training in progress.

From the first step to the last. The first step is the "dutt" in the picture on left above.

In the pictures to right, I'm practise field tracking. In this picture, I usetwo leashes to control the dog's accuracy.

When the dog is 100 % accurate I go to a longer track leash. The goal is to reach perfection. When the dog finds something in the track, the dog stands in front of the object.

In a competition the item may be a track stick, in the real life the object may be for example a lost item or a trap.

When the dog finds something in the track, the dog doesn't move until the handler gives his permission. You can choice if you want your dog lay down, sit or stand up in the front of the found object.

All working dogs and K-9 training sections consists of different steps, the field tracking is no exception.

This K-9 I also trained in anti-K9 service.

I trained the dog to cope with, for example, ammonia, which can be used to confuse the military- and police dogs.

As in all training you must know what you are doing, don't try train your dog to cope with for example ammonia, if you are not a professional dog trainer with knowledge of anti-K9 service. You can harm your dog.

The dog in the pictures to right also passed the "ball of yarn" and other tricks that can be used against military- and police dogs.

This dog was also taught to track on asphalt, in different weather conditions, selected footprints in a crowd and selected bicycle tracks.

Yes, you read that right - selected bicycle tracks.

To all who are prejudiced against the breed boxer, I can say - yes, the dog I'm talking about was a boxer.

One handler three dogs. This picture shows pure obedience. All dogs in the picture above are extreme near each other. You can see that the two male dogs don't like each other, you can see it, but it dosen't matter what they like or dislike, then the handler, in this case me, should always be the Alfa-male in the pack and the dogs shall therefore always do as the handler command.

Field track. First step outdoors. Two leashes are used on this stage to create accuracy. When the dog track the human footstep by footstep you can use one leash and after a while longer and longer cord. Below you see a dog with accuracy. The dog is like a vacuum cleaner.

Anti-K9 service.

In picture above we train antit-K-9 service. I use a so called police leash.

Allready an open field can put a spoke in the wheel. If a tough combine an open field with zick-zack running, back-tracking, ball of yarn and traps with e.g. substances as e.g. ammonia, a tough can put a K-9 dog out of function, then many K-9 officers unfortunately don't train their K-9 in anti-K-9-service.

Step by step. Environment and search practise in progress. The goal is to get perfection.

In the picture on left, we are on the MSB facility - the ruined city. MSB - Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency is a Swedish administrative authority, organised under the Ministry of Defence.

In the picture on right we do the second escalator training step. The first step is to built a large flip board and play with the dog on the board.

Note my choice of leash for this first lesson on second step.

In the pictures on right and below we do some IQ training and take the first steps in individual problem solving and search.

Note the high concentration level.

Step by steps we will develope these steps and in the end the dog will cope to find e.g. hidden objects or substances in cars, suitcases etc.

In the picture above we take the first steps in noise training. The dog becomes to like noises instead of becoming afraid if sudden noises appears. The next level after this is to step by step expose the puppy to different noises.

Within a month we will be visiting a shooting range and calmly listened while the police practice of shooting.
